New Event: Meishi Mixer

Join the JASC on Tuesday, September 21st for our first ever Meishi Mixer! The event, hosted in part by JASC corporate members InsideJapan Tours, will run from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and will take place in a private back room of the Breckenridge Brewery in Downtown Denver.

Rockies Game Fun!

We had a group of 25 at yesterday's game against the Dodgers--and what a game it was! From our great seats in the outfield we saw home runs, a player get kicked off the field and even grand slams!

In addition, the JASC raised a little bit of money--which will go towards future programs.

Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets! Hopefully we can continue these types of informal activities in the future!

Passport Japanese

JASC is excited to announce a new series of classes for those heading to Japan who want to know the basics of travel Japanese. This series, entitled, Passport Japanese: What to Know Before You Go, will be spread out over four hour and-a-half long courses, which each takes on a different topic.

Calligraphy Workshop

The shodo (Japanese calligraphy) workshop held exclusively for JASC Members in July was a success! Ms. Taeko Miura, accomplished shodo artist (and mother of JASC member and volunteer Mamiko Ikeda), presented the various different styles, and lengthy history, of shodo calligraphy.

Fifteen JASC members attended and were given the opportunity to practice with their calligraphy brushes and ink, which were part of shodo kits generously supplied by the Consulate General of Japan at Denver.

Miura-Sensei provided excellent feedback and instruction for everyone. She also introduced various kanji to try. This was Miura-Sensei's first time teaching the art of shodo in America and a wonderful experience for her and the JASC members.
