Dragon Boat Team

JASC Dragon Boat Team: Nichi-Bei-GO

About Nichi-Bei-GO

JASC sponsored a Dragon Boat team for the first time in 2018. Team Nichi-Bei-GO had such a great time that with overwhelming requests from the JASC community, we have continued to offer this program every year since!

Our boat is made up of JASC members - both Japanese and non-Japanese. Our goals are to paddle, socialize, and have FUN! Prior paddling experience is not required or expected, but always welcome (our inaugural team was 90% novices!). We are a community team with a competitive spirit, but mainly focused on having a great time out on the water and learning to paddle as one.

If you are looking for a Japan-related team to join, enjoy being in a boat, and are ready to smile and sweat, please join us! Our team does fill every season.

2025 Dragon Boat Season

JASC will host a Dragon Boat team again in 2025 to compete in the Hong Kong 400m race on Saturday, September 6th and the Hong Kong 200m race on Sunday, September 7th, at the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival at Sloan’s Lake.

Here are some great reasons to join our team:

  • Have fun while learning about the sport of dragon boating.

  • Get fit! The 5 month season includes over 25 practices.

  • Develop deeper connections with your fellow JASC members at team social events.

  • Enjoy the sense of harmony that arises from paddling as one boat and improving together.

How To Join

All paddlers must be members of JASC as well as a registered member of the dragon boat team. Team members must be at least 13 years old to participate. The steps needed to join team Nichi-Bei-GO are listed below.

  • Step 3: Get ready for Practices.

Starting in May through June, Nichi-Bei-GO will practice twice a week at Sloan’s Lake (view map) on Wednesday nights 6-8pm and Saturday mornings 8-10am. In July and August, practices will move to Mann-Nyholt Lake (view map) in Adams County, where we will practice once a week.

  • Step 4: Have fun at the race! We are competitive, but our focus is having fun and paddling as one!

    • Our main race is the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, on Saturday, September 6th and Sunday, September 7th, located on Sloans Lake. Plan to spend the weekend racing at the Dragon Boat Festival with your team!

    • We may paddle at the Riverdale Regatta on Saturday, September 27th, at Mann-Nyholt Lake at Riverdale Regional Park in Adams County. This will be decided by team vote as we get into the summer.

Team Philosophy/ Code of Conduct

Nichi-Bei-GO represents the CO-Japan relationship and JASC with the following expectations:

  • Inclusive - we invite all JASC members to be a part of our team regardless of physical abilities or paddling experience - We’ll teach you! :)

  • Good sportsmanship - we expect respect, courtesy, and support towards our teammates and the greater Dragon Boat community. Anyone unable to comply will be removed from our team.

Participation Policy

We have a minimum requirement of at least 5 practices in order to participate in races at the festival. Although you are encouraged to come to as many practices as possible, we understand life happens. Seating for race days is based on both skill and attendance at practice.

Sick Policy

Participants that are not feeling well are asked to refrain from participating until they have recovered and can safely train again - we don’t want our entire team to be sick.
